The great American west was a place which gave birth to legends. Some men became legends through industry, some through the barrel of a six shooter, and some became legends by sheer luck. Others however became legends simply because they owned an ill behaved dog and a stubborn mule. This is the story of one such man.
Alouicious Rucker was a simple farmer who, like many young men of the reconstruction era, decided to pull up stakes and try his luck prospecting for silver. During the journey however, destiny intervened, and the humble Rucker became known as one of the most heroic figures in the west…
… Thanks in no small part to an ornery mule and a mangy dog named Whitey.

Although not normally a fan of westerns, I added this to my Kindle prior to my vacation based upon the one review present at the time. What a great decision this turned out to be! An easy read but hard to put down, and had me laughing out loud in spots. The central character finds himself time and again in the right place at the right time to accidentally foil various schemes while being pursued by a reporter who is trying to get an interview with our "hero". For a good portion of the book the reporter is two steps behind and instead relies on the exaggerated claims of people who were not actually present at these incidents to write hilariously untrue stories of these exploits.
This framework is used to good effect by the writer, with several twists I did not see coming. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

Inadvertent Valor edition by Arley L Dial Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
STARTS SLOW BUT GETS OK MIDDLE TO END. NOT AS GOOD AS PLEWS.
I enjoyed the story, it was entertaining but a little fantastical. Great characters with modest good guys and a definite evil doer. Worth the time to read it.
Fun read with twists and turns which lead the main characters thru miles of trials (and many obstacles of the 1870's) toward a well deserved end.
Quite humorous at times. Story was well paced. Another enjoyable book and a bit unusual for a western.
Great read! I'm not normally a fan of western novels, but this book kept me hooked to the end. The humor and writing reminded me of Terry Pratchett books which I'm a big fan of. It had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion and I would highly recommend this book.
Great book enjoyable all the way through.
Another great read from this author. This book was so entertaining, I read this in two days (normally takes me at least a week to read a book). I'm a novice to the Western genre and found this book captivating. We get to peek into the lives of ordinary people becoming extraordinary through various circumstances. I appreciated the omniscient narration, including the thoughts of the animals in the story. I laughed and cried and am delighted to have read this book. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy this story. You will be happy you did.
